What Is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?

Adderall XR (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine salts) is used for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Side effects of Adderall XR include nervousness, restlessness, excitability, dizziness, headache, fear, anxiety, and tremor. Blood pressure and heart rate may increase, and patients may experience palpitations of the heart. Adderall XR is habit forming and chronic use may lead to dependence.
The usual dose of Adderall XR is 10-60 mg once daily. Adderall XR should not be taken with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (for example, phenelzine [Nardil]). Adderall XR should not be used in pregnancy. Mothers taking Adderall XR should refrain from nursing because amphetamines are excreted in human milk and can have undesirable effects on the child.
