Astelin (azelastine hydrochloride) Nasal Spray prevents sneezing, itching, runny nose, and other nasal symptoms of allergies. It is an antihistamine. This medication is available in generic form. Common side effects include bitter taste in the mouth, drowsiness, a burning feeling inside the nose, sneezing fits, nausea, weight gain, muscle aches, and red eyes. Strange feelings on the skin (e.g., pins and needles, crawling sensation) may also occur.
The recommended dose of Astelin Nasal Spray in adults and children 12 years and older with seasonal allergic rhinitis is one or two sprays per nostril twice daily. The recommended dose of Astelin in children 5 years to 11 years of age is one spray per nostril twice daily. For vasomotor rhinitis, the dose is two sprays per nostril twice daily. Astelin may interact with other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression, or anxiety), or cimetidine. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and supplements you use. Astelin should be used only when prescribed during pregnancy. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Astelin Prescribing Information: Indications & Dosage
Astelin® Nasal Spray is indicated for the treatment of the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis such as rhinorrhea, sneezing, and nasal pruritus in adults and children 5 years and older, and for the treatment of the symptoms of vasomotor rhinitis, such as rhinorrhea, nasal congestion and postnasal drip in adults and children 12 years and older.
