Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) refers to diseases of the blood vessels (arteries and veins) located outside the heart and brain. BAYCOL® (cerivastatin (removed from market 8/2001)) (cerivastatin sodium tablets) is indicated as an adjunct to diet to reduce elevated Total-C, LDL-C, apo B, and TG and to increase HDL-C levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson Types IIa and IIb) when the response to dietary restriction of saturated fat and cholesterol and other non-pharmacological measures alone has been inadequate. Baycol Patient Information: Side Effects
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking cerivastatin and call your doctor immediately:
- an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
- muscle aches, pain, or weakness;
- a fever;
- "flu-like" symptoms;
- decreased urine or rust-colored urine;
- blurred vision; or
- yellowing of your skin or eyes.
