  • Poorly controlled high blood pressure ultimately can cause damage to blood vessels in the eye, thickening of the heart muscle and heart attacks, hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis), kidney failure, and strokes.
  • Most antihypertensive medications can be used alone or in combination. Some are used only in combination. Some are preferred over others in certain specific medical situations. And some are not to be used (contraindicated) in other situations.

Caduet (amlodipine besylate and atorvastatin calcium) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or chest pain (angina) that occurs with high cholesterol or triglyceride levels. Caduet is a combination of amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, and atorvastatin, a statin drug. Common side effects include dizziness or lightheadedness as your body adjusts to the medication. Swelling hands/ankles/feet, tiredness, or flushing may also occur.

Dosage of Caduet is individualized on the basis of both effectiveness and tolerance for each individual component in the treatment of hypertension/angina and hyperlipidemia. Caduet may interact with spironolactone, cimetidine, antacids, digoxin, gemfibrozil or fenofibrate, niacin, erythromycin, cholestyramine or colestipol, hormonal birth control, itraconazole, fluconazole, ketoconazole, cancer medicine, steroids, cyclosporine, sirolimus, tacrolimus, or other cholesterol-lowering medicines. Tell your doctor all medications you are taking. Caduet must not be used during pregnancy. Atorvastatin may harm a fetus. Use at least 2 reliable forms of birth control (such as condoms, birth control pills) while taking this medication. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor immediately. It is unknown if amlodipine or atorvastatin passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding while using this product is not recommended.
