Carafate (sucralfate) is a medication that is used to treat duodenal ulcers. Some common side effects associated with Carafate may include constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, gastric discomfort, indigestion, flatulence, or dry mouth. Tell the doctor immediately if you notice any of these side effects. This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur.
Carafate is administered orally in the form of tablets. Lower than usual dosages are recommended for elderly patients and adolescents. Drug interactions of Carafate may include reactions with other drugs taken at the same time, preventing their full absorption. It is best to take other drugs 2 hours before or after sucralfate to avoid drug interactions. Safe use of Carafate during pregnancy and lactation has not been established; therefore, the potential benefits must be weighed against the possible hazards.
Our Carafate Drug Center provides a comprehensive view of available drug information as well as related drugs, user reviews, supplements, and diseases and conditions.
