Cleocin (clindamycin) is a semisynthetic antibiotic used for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria. Side effects of Cleocin include abdominal pain, pseudomembranous colitis, esophagitis, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. A generic formulation of Cleocin is available.
The recommended dose of Cleocin for adults is 150-450 mg orally every 6 hours or intravenous doses of 600-2700 mg daily in 2-4 divided doses. Cleocin has not been adequately evaluated in pregnant women. Cleocin should be used during pregnancy only if it is clearly needed. Cleocin is excreted in breast milk and may cause adverse effects in the infant.
