DRUG DESCRIPTION

Cloderm (clocortolone) Cream 0.1% contains the medium potency topical corticosteroid, clocortolone pivalate, in a specially formulated water-washable emollient cream base consisting of purified water, white petrolatum, mineral oil, stearyl alcohol, polyoxyl 40 stearate, carbomer 934P, edetate disodium, sodium hydroxide, with methylparaben and propylparaben as preservatives.

Chemically, clocortolone pivalate is 9-chloro-6 -fluoro-11β, 21-dihydroxy-16α methylpregna-1, 4-diene-3, 20-dione 21-pivalate. Its structure is as follows:

What are the possible side effects of clocortolone topical (Cloderm)?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have severe irritation of any treated skin, or if you show signs of absorbing clocortolone topical through your skin, such as:

  • blurred vision, or seeing halos around lights;
  • mood changes;
  • sleep problems (insomnia);
  • weight gain, puffiness in your face; or
  • muscle weakness, feeling tired.

What are the precautions when taking clocortolone (Cloderm)?

Before using clocortolone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other corticosteroids (e.g., hydrocortisone, prednisone); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: poor blood circulation, diabetes, immune system problems.

Do not use if there is an infection or sore in the area to be treated.
