Depo® -Testosterone
(testosterone cypionate) Injection, USP

DRUG DESCRIPTION

DEPO-Testosterone Injection, for intramuscular injection, contains testosterone cypionate which is the oil-soluble 17 (beta)- cyclopentylpropionate ester of the androgenic hormone testosterone.

Testosterone cypionate is a white or creamy white crystalline powder, odorless or nearly so and stable in air. It is insoluble in water, freely soluble in alcohol, chloroform, dioxane, ether, and soluble in vegetable oils.

The chemical name for testosterone cypionate is androst-4-en-3-one,17-(3-cyclopentyl-1-oxopropoxy)-, (17β)-. Its molecular formula is C27H40O3, and the molecular weight 412.61.

DEPO-Testosterone (testosterone cypionate injection) Injection is available in two strengths, 100 mg/mL and 200 mg/mL testosterone cypionate.

Each mL of the 100 mg/mL solution contains:

Testosterone cypionate...........................................100 mg
Benzyl benzoate...........................................0.1 mL
Cottonseed oil...........................................736 mg
Benzyl alcohol (as preservative)...........................................9.45 mg

Each mL of the 200 mg/mL solution contains:

Testosterone cypionate...........................................200 mg
Benzyl benzoate...........................................0.2 mL
Cottonseed oil...........................................560 mg
Benzyl alcohol (as preservative) ...........................................9.45 mg

What are the possible side effects of testosterone injection?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • swelling, rapid weight gain;
  • increased or ongoing erection of the penis;
  • bone pain, increased thirst, memory problems, restless feeling, confusion, nausea, loss of appetite, increased urination, weakness, muscle twitching; or
  • nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss...

What are the precautions when taking testosterone cypionate injection (Depo-Testosterone)?

Before using testosterone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as sesame oil), which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: breast cancer in men, prostate cancer.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart disease (such as heart failure, chest pain, heart attack), liver problems, kidney problems, other types of cancer, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, enlarged prostate, sleep apnea, diabetes.
