Dianeal PD-2 (peritoneal) Dialysis Solution is used for peritoneal dialysis in patients in acute or chronic renal failure when nondialytic medical therapy is judged to be inadequate. Dianeal PD-2 (peritoneal) Dialysis Solution may also be used to treat certain fluid and electrolyte disturbances, and for patients intoxicated with certain poisons and drugs. Common side effects of Dianeal PD-2 Dialysis Solution include:
- abdominal pain
- infection under the skin around a chronic peritoneal catheter
- catheter blockage
- difficulty in fluid removal
- electrolyte and fluid imbalances
- high or low blood volume
- high or low blood pressure
- disequilibrium syndrome, and
- muscle cramping
Dosing of Dianeal PD-2 is individualized. The mode of therapy (Intermittent Peritoneal Dialysis [IPD], Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis [CAPD], or Continuous Cyclic Peritoneal Dialysis [CCPD]), frequency of treatment, formulation, exchange volume, duration of dwell, and length of dialysis is selected by a physician. Dianeal PD-2 may interact with other drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. During pregnancy, Dianeal PD-2 should be administered only if prescribed. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Adverse reactions to peritoneal dialysis include mechanical and solution related problems as well as the results of contamination of equipment or improper technique in catheter placement. Abdominal pain, bleeding, peritonitis, subcutaneous infection around a chronic peritoneal catheter, catheter blockage, difficulty in fluid removal, and ileus are among the complications of the procedure. Solution related adverse reactions may include electrolyte and fluid imbalances, hypovolemia, hypervolemia, hypertension, hypotension, disequilibrium syndrome, and muscle cramping.
