What is cancer?

Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells anywhere in a body. The abnormal cells are termed cancer cells, malignant cells, or tumor cells. EMEND (fosaprepitant dimeglumine injection) for Injection is a substance P/neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor antagonist indicated in adults for use in combination with other antiemetic agents for the:

  • prevention of acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with initial and repeat courses of highly emetogenic cancer chemotherapy (HEC) including high-dose cisplatin [see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION]

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Tell your caregivers at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • feeling light-headed, fainting;
  • slow heart rate;
  • pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding; or

Emend Injection Consumer Information: Uses

Fosaprepitant is used with other medications to help prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer drug treatment (chemotherapy). Fosaprepitant works by blocking one of the body's natural substances (substance P/neurokinin 1) that causes vomiting.

This medication will not treat nausea or vomiting if you already have it. Contact your doctor for further instructions if you are experiencing nausea or vomiting.
