Baseline Energy Usage for Males (Kilocalories/Day)

66 + (13.7 x [Weight / 2.2]) + (5 x Height x 2.54) - (6.8 x Age)

Baseline energy usage, or basal energy expenditure (BEE), can double in times of stress.

Height (inches)

Age (years)

After putting in the values requested and clicking the calculate button, this tool will compute the baseline (or basal) energy usage (expenditure) for males. This number will be in kilocalories (kcal) per day. 1 kcal = 1,000 calories = 1 Calorie (Note the capitalization). A Calorie is better known as a dietary Calorie. So, 1 kcal equals 1 dietary Calorie.

Definitions:

calorie (cal): A unit of energy often used when measuring the energy content of food. The amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water one degree Celsius.
