Exjade (deferasirox) is indicated for the treatment of chronic iron overload due to blood transfusions (transfusional hemosiderosis) in patients 2 years of age and older. In these patients, Exjade has been shown to reduce liver iron concentration and serum ferritin levels. Clinical trials to demonstrate increased survival or to confirm clinical benefit have not been completed [see Clinical Studies].

Stop using deferasirox and get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Exjade Consumer Information: Uses

This medication is used to treat ongoing high levels of iron in the body caused by multiple blood transfusions. Deferasirox can be taken by mouth and belongs to a class of drugs known as iron chelating agents. It works by reacting with iron, allowing the body to pass extra iron out in the stool.
