Extina Prescribing Information: Indications & Dosage

Extina (ketoconazole foam, 2%) Foam is indicated for the topical treatment of seborrheic dermatitis in immunocompetent patients 12 years of age and older. Safety and efficacy of Extina (ketoconazole foam, 2%) Foam for treatment of fungal infections have not been established.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using ketoconazole topical and call your doctor if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • severe itching, burning, or irritation where the medicine is applied;
  • oily or dry scalp, mild hair loss;
  • redness, pain, or oozing of treated skin areas; or
  • eye redness, swelling, or irritation.

Extina Consumer Information: Uses

This medication is used to treat a certain skin condition (seborrheic dermatitis). In this condition, it is believed that a fungus (Malassezia furfur) infects the skin, resulting in dry, flaky skin (scaling) on the scalp, face, ears, chest, or upper back. Ketoconazole is an azole antifungal drug that works by stopping the growth of fungus.
