How does Glucomannan work?

Glucomannan might work in the stomach and intestines by absorbing water to form a bulky fiber which treats constipation. It may also slow the absorption of glucose (sugar) and cholesterol from the gut, helping to control sugar levels in diabetes, and reducing cholesterol levels.

Are there safety concerns?

Glucomannan powder or flour in enriched foods such as noodles is safe. Glucomannan powder and capsules seem to be safe for most adults and children. Avoid using solid tablets containing glucomannan. These can sometimes cause blockages of the throat or intestines.

Do not use glucomannan if:
  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding.
  • You are scheduled for surgery in the next two weeks.
