Inderal LA (propranolol hydrochloride) is used to treat tremors, angina (chest pain), hypertension (high blood pressure), heart rhythm disorders, and other heart or circulatory conditions. It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack, and to reduce the severity and frequency of migraine headaches. It is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. This medication is available in generic form. Common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, or tiredness as your body adjusts to the medication. Nausea/vomiting, stomach pain, vision changes, trouble sleeping, and unusual dreams may also occur.
The usual dosage of Inderal LA ranges from 80 to 160 mg once daily, depending on the condition being treated. Inderal LA may interact with clonidine, digitalis, dobutamine, haloperidol, isoproterenol, blood thinners, antidepressants, MAO inhibitors, aspirin or other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), doxazosin, prazosin, terazosin, heart medications, amiodarone, propafenone, quinidine, or ACE inhibitors. During pregnancy, Inderal LA should be used only when prescribed. Infants exposed to this medication during pregnancy may have low birth weight, low blood sugar, or slow breathing/heartbeat. This drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Inderal LA (propranolol) is indicated in the management of hypertension. It may be used alone or used in combination with other antihypertensive agents, particularly a thiazide diuretic. Inderal LA (propranolol) is not indicated in the management of hypertensive emergencies.
