K-Phos Neutral (potassium and sodium phosphate) is used to acidify the urine and lower the urinary calcium concentration. It may also increase the antibiotic effect of methenamine. K-Phos Neutral is also used as a phosphorus supplement to prevent and/or treat a phosphorus deficiency. It is a mineral supplement. This medication is available in generic form. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, or headache.
The adult dose of K-Phos Neutral is one or two tablets four times daily. For pediatric patients over 4 years of age, dose is one tablet four times daily. Under 4 years of age, use only as directed by a physician. K-Phos Neutral may interact with calcium and/or vitamin D supplements, potassium supplements or salt substitutes, diuretics (water pills), heart medications, or steroids. Tell your doctor all prescription and over-the-counter medications and supplements you use. During pregnancy K-Phos Neutral should be used only when prescribed. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Stop taking potassium phosphate and sodium phosphate and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
Other, less serious side effects may also to occur. Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea are among the most common. These side effects usually lessen after a few days of therapy. Notify your doctor if you develop these side effects.
