Lac-Hydrin (lactic acid) is used to treat dry, scaly skin conditions (e.g., xerosis, ichthyosis vulgaris) and can also help relieve itching from these conditions. It is an emollient. This medication is available in generic form. Common side effects include stinging, burning, and redness.
Lac-Hydrin is applied to the affected areas and rubbed in thoroughly. The dose is to use twice daily or as directed by a physician. Lac-Hydrin may interact with other skin products. Tell your doctor all prescription and over-the-counter medications and supplements you are taking. During pregnancy, Lac-Hydrin should be used only if prescribed. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
