Meprobamate tablets are indicated for the management of anxiety disorders or for the short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety or tension associated with the stress of everyday life usually do not require treatment with an anxiolytic. The effectiveness of meprobamate tablets in long-term use, that is, more than 4 months, has not been assessed by systematic clinical studies. The physician should periodically reassess the usefulness of the drug for the individual patient.

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking meprobamate and seek emergency medical attention:

  • an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; or hives);
  • fast or irregular heartbeats;
  • abnormal behavior;
  • fever;
  • a skin rash; or
  • a sore throat.

meprobamate Consumer Information: Uses

This medication is used short-term to treat symptoms of anxiety and nervousness. It acts on certain centers of the brain to help calm your nervous system.

HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually 2 to 4 times daily or as directed by your doctor.
