Microzide (hydrochlorothiazide) is a medication that belongs to the drug class, diuretic. It is available as a generic drug, and is prescribed for lowering blood pressure (hypertension) and accumulation of fluid (edema). Common side effects of Microzide include weakness, low blood pressure, light sensitivity, impotence, nausea, abdominal pain, electrolyte disturbances, pancreatitis, jaundice, anaphylaxis, and rashes.
Microzide dose ranges from 12.5 to 100 mg/day depending on the condition that is being treated. Drug interactions include Lithobid (lithium), Motrin (ibuprofen), Lanoxin (digoxin) and Questran (cholestyramine). There are no adequate studies of Microzide in pregnant women and it is excreted in breast milk.

MICROZIDE (hydrochlorothiazide capsule) is indicated in the management of hypertension either as the sole therapeutic agent, or in combination with other antihypertensives. Unlike potassium sparing combination diuretic products, MICROZIDE (hydrochlorothiazide capsule) may be used in those patients in whom the development of hyperkalemia cannot be risked, including patients taking ACE inhibitors.
