Moduretic Prescribing Information: Indications & Dosage

MODURETIC (amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide) is indicated in those patients with hypertension or with congestive heart failure who develop hypokalemia when thiazides or other kaliuretic diuretics are used alone, or in whom maintenance of normal serum potassium levels is considered to be clinically important, e.g., digitalized patients, or patients with significant cardiac arrhythmias.

The use of potassium-conserving agents is often unnecessary in patients receiving diuretics for uncomplicated essential hypertension when such patients have a normal diet.

Moduretic Consumer Information: Uses

This product is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, or extra fluid in the body (edema). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

This product contains two medications: amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide. Both medications are "water pills" (diuretics) and cause your body to get rid of extra salt and water. This effect may increase the amount of urine you make when you first start the product. Amiloride also helps to treat or prevent low blood potassium levels.
