Olux-E Drug Center

Medical Editor: John P. Cunha, DO, FACOEP

Olux-E (clobetasol propionate foam) is used to treat inflammation and itching caused by a number of skin conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis. It is a topical (for the skin) steroid. Common side effects include burning, itching, irritation, or dryness when this medication is first applied to the skin. Acne, unusual hair growth, or "hair bumps" (folliculitis) may also occur.

The dose of Olux-E is to apply a thin layer of foam to the affected area(s) twice daily, morning and evening for up to 2 consecutive weeks; therapy should be discontinued when control has been achieved. The maximum weekly dose should not exceed 50 g or an amount greater than 21 capfuls per week. It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on topically applied Olux-E. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, and supplements you use. During pregnancy, Olux-E should be used only when prescribed. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk when applied to the skin. Similar medications pass into breast milk when taken by mouth. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Our Olux-E (clobetasol propionate foam) Drug Center provides a comprehensive view of available drug information as well as related drugs, user reviews, supplements, and diseases and conditions articles.

Olux-E Consumer Information: Uses

This medication is used to treat a variety of skin conditions (e.g., psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash). Clobetasol reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions. It also can heal the rough, scaly patches on the skin seen with psoriasis. Clobetasol is a very strong (super-high-potency) corticosteroid. This medication also contains emollients. Emollients soften and moisturize the skin, leading to decreased itching and flaking. Emollients also help to protect the skin against irritation.

This medication is not recommended for use in childr...
