Pamelor (nortriptyline HCl) is an antidepressant that is used to treat mental/mood problems such as depression. Some common side effects associated with Pamelor may include fast heart rate, blurred vision, urinary retention, dry mouth, constipation, weight gain or loss, and orthostatic hypotension. Tell the doctor immediately if you notice any of these side effects especially worsening of depression or other psychiatric conditions. This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur.
Pamelor is administered orally in the form of capsules or liquid. Lower than usual dosages are recommended for elderly patients and adolescents. Drug interactions of Pamelor include monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), cimetidine (Tagamet), alcohol, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines. Safe use of Pamelor during pregnancy and lactation has not been established; therefore, the potential benefits must be weighed against the possible hazards.
