Parafon Forte (chlorzoxazone) is prescribed to treat musculoskeletal pain or injury. It is usually used in conjunction with rest and physical therapy. Parafon Forte is a muscle relaxant and is available in generic form. Side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, light-headedness, upset stomach, or headache.

Parafon Forte is dosed in 500 mg caplets, taken orally three or four times per day. Parafon Forte may interact with cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, seizure medication, antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications. Parafon Forte may harm a fetus, and should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Consult your physician if you are pregnant. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

PARAFON FORTE DSC chlorzoxazone is indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy, and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. The mode of action of this drug has not been clearly identified, but may be related to its sedative properties. Chlorzoxazone does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles in man.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using chlorzoxazone and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
  • black, bloody, or tarry stools;
  • coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds; or
  • feeling like you might pass out.
