PedvaxHIB Prescribing Information: Indications & Dosage

Liquid PedvaxHIB is indicated for routine vaccination against invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b in infants and children 2 to 71 months of age.

Liquid PedvaxHIB will not protect against disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae other than type b or against other microorganisms that cause invasive disease such as meningitis or sepsis. As with any vaccine, vaccination with Liquid PedvaxHIB may not result in a protective antibody response in all individuals given the vaccine.

Keep track of any and all side effects your child has after receiving this vaccine. When the child receives another haemophilus B vaccine in the future, you will need to tell the child's doctor if the first shot caused any side effects.

Becoming infected with haemophilus B is much more dangerous to your child's health than receiving the vaccine to protect against it. Like any medicine, this vaccine can cause side effects, but the risk of serious side effects is extremely low.

PedvaxHIB Consumer Information: Uses

This vaccine helps protect young children from Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) infection. Hib is a bacterial infection that can cause serious illness, including brain infection (meningitis). Children younger than age 5 are at highest risk for infection. Vaccination is the best way to protect against this life-threatening disease. Vaccines work by causing the body to produce its own protection (antibodies).

This vaccine is not usually used in children over the age of 5 or in adults.
