What are sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)?

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that can be transferred from one person to another through any type of sexual contact. STDs are sometimes referred to as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) since they involve the transmission of a disease-causing organism from one person to another during sexual activity. It is important to realize that sexual contact includes more than just sexual intercourse (vaginal and anal). Sexual contact includes kissing, oral-genital contact, and the use of sexual "toys," such as vibrators. STDs probably have been around for thousands of years, but the most dangerous of these conditions, the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS or HIV disease), has only been recognized since 1984.

DRUG DESCRIPTION

Podofilox (podofilox) Topical Solution is an antimitotic drug which can be chemically synthesized or purified from the plant families Coniferae and Berberidaceae (e.g.species of Juniperus and podophyllum). Podofilox (podofilox) Topical Solution 0.5% is formulated for topical administration. Each milliliter of solution contains 5 mg of podofilox (podofilox) , in a vehicle containing lactic acid and sodium lactate in alcohol 95%,USP.

Podofilox (podofilox) has a molecular weight of 414.4 daltons, and is soluble in alcohol and sparingly soluble in water. Its chemical name is 5,8,8a,9-Tetrahydro-9- hydroxy-5-(3,4,5- trimethoxylphenyl)furo[3†,4†:6,7] naphtho[2,3,d]-1, 3-diox- ol-6(5aH)-one.
