Primatene Mist (epinephrine) for Inhalation is a bronchodilator used for temporary relief of occasional symptoms of mild asthma including wheezing tightness of chest and shortness of breath. Primatene Mist is available over-the-counter. Common side effects of Primatene Mist include:
- shaking (tremor)
- trouble sleeping
- stomach upset
- dry mouth
- bad taste
- sore throat
- difficult or painful urination
- fast heartbeat
- high blood pressure
- loss of appetite
- loss of skin color, or
- dry throat.

If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
This medication may raise your blood pressure. Check your blood pressure regularly and tell your doctor if the results are high.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps, weakness, mental/mood changes (e.g., anxiety, hallucinations).
Seek immediate medical attention if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: chest pain.
Rarely, this medication has caused severe (rarely fatal), sudden worsening of breathing problems/asthma (paradoxical bronchospasm). If you experience sudden wheezing, seek immediate medical attention.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
