PROPINE® (dipivefrin HCI ophthalmic solution, USP) is indicated as initial therapy for the control of intraocular pressure in chronic open-angle glaucoma. Patients responding inadequately to other antiglaucoma therapy may respond to addition of PROPINE® (dipivefrin) .

In controlled and open-label studies of glaucoma, PROPINE® (dipivefrin) ophthalmic solution demonstrated a statistically significant intraocular pressure-lowering effect. Stop using dipivefrin and get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • severe stinging or burning in your eyes;
  • fast or uneven heart rate; or
  • high blood pressure (severe headache, buzzing in your ears, anxiety, confusion, chest pain, shortness of breath).

Propine Consumer Information: Uses

Dipivefrin is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open-angle type) or other eye diseases (e.g., ocular hypertension). Lowering high pressure inside the eye can help prevent blindness. This medication works by regulating the flow of fluid within the eye to maintain a normal pressure.

HOW TO USE: Apply this medication in the affected eye(s), usually one drop every 12 hours or as directed by your doctor.
