Pulmozyme Prescribing Information: Indications & Dosage

Daily administration of Pulmozyme® (dornase alfa) (dornase alpha) Inhalation Solution in conjunction with standard therapies is indicated in the management of cystic fibrosis patients to improve pulmonary function. In patients with an FVC ≥ 40% of predicted, daily administration of Pulmozyme (dornase alfa) has also been shown to reduce the risk of respiratory tract infections requiring parenteral antibiotics.

Safety and efficacy of daily administration have not been demonstrated in patients for longer than 12 months.

Pulmozyme Patient Information: Side Effects

If you experience any of the following serious side effects while taking dornase alfa, seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:

  • an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
  • increased difficulty breathing;
  • chest pain; or
  • fever.

Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur with the use of dornase alfa. Talk to your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:

Pulmozyme Consumer Information: Uses

This medication is used to improve breathing and reduce the risk of lung infections in people with cystic fibrosis. It is used along with other treatments for this disease (e.g., chest physical therapy, medications, nutritional supplements). Dornase alfa is the same as a substance (DNase I enzyme) that is naturally produced by the body. It works in the airways by decreasing stickiness/thickness of mucus so that it can be cleared from the lungs more easily.
