Introduction

Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a fancy way to describe muscle pain. It refers to pain and inflammation in the body's soft tissues.

Myofascial pain is a chronic condition that affects the fascia (connective tissue that covers the muscles). Myofascial pain syndrome may involve either a single muscle or a muscle group. In some cases, the area where a person experiences the pain may not be where the myofascial pain generator is located. Experts believe that the actual site of the injury or the strain prompts the development of a trigger point that, in turn, causes pain in other areas. This situation is known as referred pain.

What causes myofascial pain?

Myofascial pain may develop from a muscle injury or from excessive strain on a particular muscle or muscle group, ligament or tendon. Other causes include:

Injury to intervertebral disc
General fatigue

Robaxisal Prescribing Information: Indications & Dosage

Robaxisal (methocarbamol and aspirin) is indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy, and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. The mode of action of methocarbamol has not been clearly identified but may be related to its sedative properties. Methocarbamol does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles in man.

Robaxisal Patient Information: Side Effects

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking aspirin and methocarbamol and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:

an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
red, black, or bloody stools;
bloody vomit;
rash or itching;
fever; or
nasal congestion.

Robaxisal Consumer Information: Uses

This combination medication is used to treat pain caused by or occurring with muscle spasm. Methocarbamol helps to relax the muscles. Aspirin helps to decrease the pain.

HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually 4 times daily or as directed by your doctor. Take with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this medication. If stomach upset occurs while taking this medication, take it with food, milk, or an antacid. ...
