Definition of Acute leukemia

Acute leukemia: Cancer of the white blood cells (leukemia) that characteristically comes on abruptly and, if not treated, progresses rapidly. The two major types of acute leukemia are acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myelocytic leukemia (AML).
