Definition of Axillary dissection

Axillary dissection: Surgery in which the axilla (the armpit) is opened -- to "dissect" means to "cut apart" -- in order to identify, examine, and sometimes remove structures such as lymph nodes or other tissue for diagnosis or treatment.
