Peripheral neuropathy: A problem with the functioning of the nerves outside the spinal cord. Symptoms may include numbness, weakness, burning pain (especially at night), and loss of reflexes.
There are many causes of peripheral neuropathy, including diabetes, certain drugs, kidney failure, and vitamin deficiency. The treatment for a peripheral neuropathy may be different depending on its cause.
