Definition of Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE)

Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE): A chronic brain disease of children and adolescents that occurs months to often years after an attack of measles, causing convulsions, motor abnormalities, mental retardation and, usually, death.
