NIGMS: Stands for the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, one of the National Institutes of Health in the U.S., whose mission is to "support basic biomedical research that is not targeted to specific diseases or disorders. Among the most significant results of this research has been the development of recombinant DNA technology, which forms the basis for the biotechnology industry."
