I was given this for a possible secondary bronchial infection due to flu. I took one dose of 1000mg XL with food and yogurt to prevent GI symptoms. Within two hours I had severe nausea, dry mouth/metallic taste and significant lightheadedness. Overnight I had an actual nightmare (haven't had one for years!). Today I am still extremely lightheaded and miserable. I also have a very strange feeling of despair and sadness and actually thought to myself, "I need to go cry a lot". I am not crazy and I cannot wait for these side effects to go away. I will hopefully heal naturally and will avoid this drug most definitely in the future! Published: February 08, 2008 ::

The medication gives you a terrible, almost intolerable taste in your mouth. It is awful. Published: October 11, 2007 ::

This is day 3 and I am so sick, it is worse than the bronchitis I am being treated for! Horrible stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, the shakes, heart palpitations, horrible taste, anxiety attacks, depression and weird dreams. I will never take this again. Published: July 24, 2008 ::

My dr. told me right off the bat that this medication would taste awful and that she recommends taking it with skittles or chocolate to help get rid of the taste. im allergic to 4 of 5 classes of antibiotics and so far this is going ok. I do itch some but its not unbearable and sleeping is a little restless but its better than infected eardrums. Very few drugs come with no side effects so im please with this so far because hey, its not sent me to the emergency room with breathing problems. Published: March 21, 2008 ::

While this medication has been extremely effective, I have had an extremely bitter taste in my mouth since I began taking Biaxin. Published: October 31, 2007 ::

After a few days on this medication, I couldn't taste anything, I had dizziness fatigue, and loss of appetite. I called my doctor who didn't advise me to stop taking it or suggest an alternative. On my own, I stopped taking it for a day. Then, I decided to continue with it, since it was either that or pay for another co-pay to see another doctor! I was then able to tolerate it. My infection has cleared however, not without another side effect - insomnia. I just finished my prescription, however today I still feel lightheaded and had chest pain which I read are both side effects. I won't take this medication again and will switch doctors. Side effects kicked in after 1-2 days and got so bad I had to stop taking the medication altogether. Horrible taste in mouth, severe headaches and heart palpitations/breathing trouble. Had to go to walk in clinic to get vitals checked since my dr. wouldn't 'squeeze' me in to see him. Very scary experienced. Switching doctors and never taking this drug again. After taking several other drugs, this was the only one that worked! I'll put up with the bad taste in my mouth Published: November 26, 2007 ::
