Have had very very many medical issues due to back, neck, female problems, fibromyagia,Crohns disease and recently new knee. I was on the patch and pills to control my pain but am now on jut the patches.I feel that if you want to take yourself off of some of your meds to not do that. I feel that poppin pills was a definite habit and with the patches you get away from that feeling. they can also adjust your patches upward as well to assist in yur pain. yu apply the patches and dont worry about it for another 2 days! Believe me, I have had 28 syrgeries and know about chronic pain!!!Hop this helps anyone!
been taking for 6months due due chronic neck pain, fused, bulging and protruding disc. Was very effective first couple of months. Now taking 75mcg plus 4 10/325 norco a day. had problems with patches falling off so I switched to Mylan Brand stays on but doesnt last as long, have to change every 48hrs I have a lot of side effects itching, mood swings, achiness, extreme tiredness, anxiety attacks, hot flashes. i wish i had never started this med. even tho my pain level is decreased the side effects are horrible. and god forbid it falls off or runs out the withdrawls are very painful and emotional. im going to discuss with my doctor about trying to wheaning off them, however im scared.
I have been using RX painmeds for about 13 years and only started the Duragesic one week ago. It is a God send! I had spinal surgery 23 years ago and now have 2 more bulging discs, stenosis and arthritis as well as scar tissue from the previous surgery. I had a staph infection in the surgical incision while in the hospital that has caused bad nerve damage. I also have had rotator cuff surgery that never relieved the pain due to insurance refusing to pay until I did everything else including physical therapy for almost a year after injury. I lost about 20% mobility and large amount of strength in that arm. I have been taking 90 Oxycontin a month and running out before the month ended and still could not work. Since starting the patch I have only been taking 2 ibuprofen twice daily. The glue REALLY needs to be better, that is only problem I have had.

For all of you having trouble with the patch staying on, in the instructions, there are 2 types of bandages specifically made for the fentanyl patch. Thru a local (non-chain) pharmacy, they ordered me the Bioclusive 2x3" patch. It is a clear patch and will not absorb medicine as bandages might. Works wonders for me---my patch never comes off unless I am taking it off. Try this and you will be amazed. You should be able to order through any "Good Neighbor" or private pharmacy. I have Kaiser Insurance and they gave me the wrong advise because they don't carry this patch. Good luck to you all
Duragesic patches give me a more consistent level of pain relief than any oral med I have tried. The only downside for this medication is that it is affected by body temperature, so that if you are outside in hot weather - that will cause you to receive an abnormally high dosage, leading to serious side effects. Overall - I like it the best of any opioid I have ever used.
I have been using the patch 5omcg now for about 6 months. I cant get the things to stay on.And I don't think the dose I am on is strong enough. I started out with 25mcg and they bumped me up to 50 within the first visit. Its now been 4months and after about 48hrs if i can even keep them on with tape they just don't seem to work. I almost start going into immediate withdrawls. And I ache all over again. I want to go up to the 75mcg and i want to be able to keep them on so that I can tell if they'll actually help. I do not take anything for breakthrough pain, and that might be part of the problem too. But how do i tell my Dr. that? He thinks everyone is out for the high. I just want my painfree life back so so so bad. So does my Husband and Grandchildren.

The Duragesic patches work great for me, I suffer from severe chronic lower back pain.I use the patches along with Percocet 3x day.I have found that to get the patch to stay in place well,I clean the area with rubbing alcohol, let the area where I am placing the patch dry, then I apply the patch. If anyone still has trouble with the patch staying in place, then Nexcare makes a fantastic water-proof tape.Cut 4 strips of the tape, and tape the outer edges of the patch. But usually if you clean the arear well with rubbing alcohol first, the patch should stay in place with no problems at all.I am on the 75mcg Duragesic patch and can function great with normal everyday activities.Without the patch I could not function at all. I hope this info helps someone.
