My son has been taking this medicine for about a year now for his ADHD. He is almost 6 now. The doctors couldn't give him a stimulant because he also has a mild form of Tourette's and a stimulant would bring out his ticks. So now after a year of use, I have noticed a HUGE change in my son. He is more calm and reasonable regarding situations which he use to not have any patience for. And it's not to a point where he is like a zombie which was my biggest fear when staring him on medication. If I give him his medicine 2 or 3 hours late, I notice a huge difference. His hyperactivity and ticks flare up and he has trouble focusing. As a parent formerly against medicating children for ADD & ADHD, I am glad I did this because my son is so smart and has been doing excellent at school now that he can focus better. My 10 year old daughter was prescribed this drug for Tourettes Disorder and ADHD, last year. She too was very sleepy and groggy during school but soon she became used to the medication. Her tics almost vanished! Her ADHD calmed way down during the day so she could study during school. I give this medication a shiny star and A+. Over the summer my daughter wanted to ween her self off her meds. We tried. Her tics came back. Her ADHD was back with a vengeance so she decided she wanted her medication; the tension in her body was too much for her to handle. This medication is great for Tourettes!! This medication changed my life. I had ADHD really bad and now I don't. The only bad thing is that I feel like it loses it's effectivenes over time. I had my dose increased and that helped, but I still wish it could do more for me than it does. Published: January 24, 2009 ::

My 5 year old daughter was put on this medication for ADHD! She was only on 1mg when I took her off of it b/c of some side effects she was having...she was experiencing leg cramps that tylenol wouldn't help and having weird fits and I would have to cradle her and rock her to calm here down! She will start Focalin this week so we will see if that helps...this medication did help with the attention problem, but I wasn't willing to put up with the extreme side effects! my 3 year old son has autism spectrum disorder and was diagnosed with ADHD as well. When first starting this medication it made him slow and sleepy for the first couple days. Then after about a month his aggressive behaviors and outburst started back up. We increased the dosage and he did the slow and sleepy for a couple days and after a week his behaviors came back. Im now weining him off to try a new medicine, risperdal. We have tried clonodine and mythelin- which did not work for us either. Published: July 10, 2008 ::
