Sensorcaine Drug Center

Medical Editor: John P. Cunha, DO, FACOEP

Sensorcaine (bupivacaine hcl injections) is used as a local (in one area) anesthetic for a spinal block. It is an anesthetic (numbing medicine). This medication is available in generic form. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, back pain, dizziness, or problems with sexual function.

The dose of Sensorcaine varies with the anesthetic procedure, the area to be anesthetized, the vascularity of the tissues, the number of segments to be blocked, the depth of anesthesia and degree of muscle relaxation required, the duration of anesthesia desired, individual tolerance, and the physical condition of the patient. The smallest dose and concentration required to produce the desired result should be administered. Sensorcaine may interact with blood thinners, ergot medicines, MAO inhibitors, or antidepressants. Tell your doctor all medications you use. During pregnancy, Sensorcaine should be used only if prescribed. This medication may be harmful to a fetus. This medication can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Our Sensorcaine (bupivacaine hcl) Drug Center provides a comprehensive view of available drug information as well as related drugs, user reviews, supplements, and diseases and conditions articles.
