Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) is a combination medication belonging to the drug class known as antihistamine/antitussive drugs. Tussionex is prescribed for symptomatically managing cold and allergy symptoms. Common side effects of Tussionex include lightheadedness, dizziness, sedation, nausea, vomiting, and disturbed coordination.
Tussionex usual dose is 5 ml twice a day. Drug interactions include benzodiazepines (for example, Valium [Diazepam]), tricyclic antidepressants (for example, Elavil [amitriptyline]) and anticholinergic medications (for example, Bentyl [dicyclomine]). Tussionex should not be used during pregnancy as it may cause adverse effects in the fetus unless the potential benefit outweighs the potential unknown risk to the fetus. Tussionex is secreted in human breast milk and may cause adverse effects in the new born.
