Unasyn (ampicillin sodium/sulbactam sodium) is a medication is a combination antibiotic indicated for the treatment of infections due to susceptible strains of the designated microorganisms. Some common side effects associated with Unasyn may include fever, sore throat, headache, rash,, diarrhea, or body aches. Tell the doctor immediately if you notice any of these side effects. This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur.
Unasyn is administered orally in the form of tablets. Concurrent use of probenecid with Unasyn (ampicillin and sulbactam) may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of ampicillin and sulbactam. The concurrent administration of allopurinol and ampicillin increases substantially the incidence of rashes in patients receiving both drugs as compared to patients receiving ampicillin alone. Safe use of Unasyn during pregnancy and lactation has not been established; therefore, the potential benefits must be weighed against the possible hazards.

UNASYN is indicated for the treatment of infections due to susceptible strains of the designated microorganisms in the conditions listed below.
Skin and Skin Structure Infections caused by beta-lactamase producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli,* Klebsiella spp.* (including K. pneumoniae*), Proteus mirabilis,* Bacteroides fragilis,* Enterobacter spp.,* and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus.*
