Urispas (flavoxate HCl) is used to treat bladder symptoms such as frequent or urgent urination, increased night-time urination, bladder pain, and incontinence (urine leakage). These bladder symptoms are often caused by overactive bladder, prostate enlargement, bladder infections, or irritation of the urethra. It is not an antibiotic, and does not cure infections. It is a synthetic urinary tract spasmolytic. This medication is available in generic form. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, and nervousness.
The dose of Urispas for adults and children over 12 years of age is one or two 100 mg tablets 3 or 4 times a day. This drug is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Urispas may interact with other bladder or urinary medications such as darifenacin, oxybutynin, tolterodine, or solifenacin. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. During pregnancy, Urispas should be used only when prescribed. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
