Antipyrine Benzocaine Phenylephrine

Antipyrine/benzocaine/phenylephrine is an over-the-counter (OTC) product used to relieve ear pain/congestion.

Otic Solution

• 5%/5%/0.25%

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

Ear Pain/Congestion

• Apply to the ear canal (drop by drop) until ear canal filled, insert gauze into ear-opening; may apply three times daily for two to three days

Common side effects of acetaminophen/aspirin include:

• Temporary stinging/burning in the ear canal
• Local hypersensitivity reaction

• Discontinue if rash, redness, or dry skin develops

Pregnancy and Lactation

• Use antipyrine/benzocaine/phenylephrine with caution during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Animal studies show risk and human studies are not available or neither animal nor human studies were done.
• It is unknown if antipyrine/benzocaine/phenylephrine passes into breast milk.
