What Is Flexbumin?

Flexbumin (albumin human injection, solution) is an albumin solution indicated for low blood volume (hypovolemia), hypoalbuminemia: burns, and cardiopulmonary bypass surgery.

What Are Side Effects of Flexbumin?

Side effects of Flexbumin are rare and may include:

  • hypersensitivity reaction (including anaphylactic reaction) and
  • fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema)

Dosage for Flexbumin

The dose of Flexbumin required depends on the patient's body weight, severity of injury/illness and on continuing fluid and protein losses.

Flexbumin In Children

The safety of albumin solutions has been demonstrated in children provided the dose is appropriate for body weight; however, the safety of Flexbumin has not been evaluated in sponsor conducted pediatric studies.

Flexbumin may interact with other medicines.

Flexbumin During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Flexbumin; it is unknown how it would affect a fetus. It is unknown if Flexbumin passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Flexbumin Consumer Information

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; cough, difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Tell your caregiver right away if you have:

  • a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
  • weak or shallow breathing;
  • throbbing headache, blurred vision, buzzing in your ears;
  • anxiety, confusion, sweating, pale skin; or
  • severe shortness of breath, wheezing, gasping for breath, cough with foamy mucus, chest pain, and fast or uneven heart rate.

Common side effects may include:

  • nausea, vomiting;
  • fever, chills;
  • fast heart rate;
  • mild rash; or
  • flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).

Postmarketing Experience

The following adverse reactions have been identified during post-approval use of FLEXBUMIN 5%. Because these reactions are reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not always possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure.

The following adverse reactions have been reported in the post approval use of FLEXBUMIN 5%:

  • Immune System Disorders: Anaphylactic shock, anaphylactic reaction, hypersensitivity/allergic reactions
  • Nervous System Disorders: Headache, dysgeusia
  • Cardiac Disorders: Myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, tachycardia
  • Vascular Disorders: Hypotension, flushing
  • Respiratory, Thoracic, and Mediastinal Disorders: Pulmonary edema, dyspnea
  • Gastrointestinal Disorders: Vomiting, nausea
  • Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue Disorders: Urticaria, rash, pruritus
  • General Disorders and Administration Site Conditions: Pyrexia, chills
