What is scurvy?
Many have heard of scurvy but do not know exactly what it is. Often, scurvy is thought of as “the pirate disease” due to lack of nutrition overseas. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 10% to 14% of adults were reported to have a vitamin C deficiency, with 15% to 25% of people age 65 and over being affected.

People with renal disease or history of oxalate kidney stones, people in increased age, and children younger than 2 years old may be at higher.
