What Is Lumi-Sporyn?

Lumi-Sporyn (neomycin and polymyxin B sulfates and bacitracin zinc ophthalmic ointment) is an antimicrobial ointment used for topical treatment of superficial infections of the external eye and its adnexa caused by susceptible bacteria. Such infections include conjunctivitis, keratitis and keratoconjunctivitis, blepharitis and blepharoconjunctivitis.

What Are Side Effects of Lumi-Sporyn?

Side effects of Lumi-Sporyn include:

  • irritation on instillation and
  • allergic sensitization reactions including itching, swelling, and eye redness

Dosage for Lumi-Sporyn

Apply Lumi-Sporyn ointment topically into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) every 3 or 4 hours for 7 to 10 days, depending on the severity of the infection.

Lumi-Sporyn In Children

Safety and effectiveness of Lumi-Sporyn in children have not been established.

Lumi-Sporyn may interact with other medicines.

Lumi-Sporyn During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Lumi-Sporyn; it is unknown how it could affect a fetus. It is unknown if Lumi-Sporyn passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

SIDE EFFECTS

Adverse reactions have occurred with the anti-infective components of LUMI-SPORYN. The exact incidence is not known. Reactions occurring most often are allergic sensitization reactions including itching, swelling, and conjunctival erythema (see WARNINGS). More serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported rarely.

Local irritation on instillation has also been reported.
