Rimegepant is a prescription medication used for treating migraine attacks with or without aura in adults.

What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Rimegepant?

Common side effects of Rimegepant include:

  • nausea

Serious side effects of Rimegepant include:

  • shortness of breath
  • difficulty breathing
  • swelling of the face, eyes, mouth, throat, tongue, or lips
  • rash
  • hives
  • itching

 Rare side effects of Rimegepant include:

  • none 

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

  • Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
  • Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
  • Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in your chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.

What Are Dosages of Rimegepant?

Adult dosage

Oral disintegrating tablet

  • 75 mg

Migraine Treatment

Adult dosage

  • 75 mg orally as needed
  • Maximum dose: 75 mg in a 24-hour period

Migraine Prevention

  • 75 mg orally every other day

If your medical doctor is using this medicine to treat your pain, your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor, health care provider, or pharmacist first.

  • Rimegepant has severe interactions with no other drugs.
  • Rimegepant has serious interactions with at least 118 other drugs.
  • Rimegepant has moderate interactions with at least 39 other drugs.
  • Rimegepant has minor interactions with no other drugs.

Cautions

  • It is not known if it is safe to take rimegepant ODT for more than 15 migraine headaches in 30 days.
  • Rimegepant ODT can be taken 1 time each day as needed. You should not take more than 1 tablet in 24 hours.
  • Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.
  • If you take too much rimegepant ODT, go to the nearest emergency room right away.

Drug interaction overview

  • Strong or moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors
    • Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors: Avoid coadministration; coadministration results in a significant increase in rimegepant ODT exposure
    • Moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors: If coadministered, avoid another dose of rimegepant ODT within 48 hours
  • Strong or moderate CYP3A inducers
    • Avoid coadministration
    • Coadministration may result in a significant reduction in rimegepant ODT exposure and loss of efficacy
  • Inhibitors of P-GP or BCRP
    • Avoid coadministration
    • Coadministration may result in a significant increase in rimegepant ODT exposure

Pregnancy and Lactation

  • It is not known whether a rimegepant will harm an unborn baby. However, having migraine headaches may cause complications during pregnancy such as dangerously high blood pressure that can lead to medical problems for both mother and baby. The benefit of treating migraines may outweigh any risks to the baby.
  • Clinical considerations

Lactation

  • It may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risks.
