What Is Omeclamox-Pak?

Omeclamox-Pak (omeprazole delayed-release capsules 20 mg, clarithromycin tablets 500 mg, and amoxicillin capsules 500 mg) is a combination of a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), a macrolide antimicrobial, and a penicillin antibiotic, indicated for the treatment of patients with Helicobacter pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease (active or up to one-year history) to eradicate H. pylori.

What Are Side Effects of Omeclamox-Pak?

Common side effects of Omeclamox-Pak include:

  • diarrhea
  • changes in taste, and
  • headache

Dosage for Omeclamox-Pak

The adult dosing regimen of Omeclamox-Pak is omeprazole 20 mg plus clarithromycin 500 mg plus amoxicillin 1000 mg, each given twice daily for 10 days in the morning and evening before eating a meal.

What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Omeclamox-Pak?

Omeclamox-Pak may interact with antiarrythmics, oral anticoagulants, atazanavir, nelfinavir, saquinavir, cilostazol, tacrolimus, theophylline, carbamazepine, sildenafil, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins), diazepam, warfarin, phenytoin, cyclosporine, disulfiram, benzodiazepines, probenecid, ketoconazole, iron salts, ampicillin esters, digoxin, and mycophenolate mofetil. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.

Omeclamox-Pak During Pregnancy or Breastfeeding

Omeclamox-Pak is not recommended for use during pregnancy. The omeprazole and clarithromycin in Omeclamox-Pak may harm a fetus. The omeprazole and amoxicillin in Omeclamox-Pak pass into breast milk. It is unknown if clarithromycin passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding while taking Omeclamox-Pak is not recommended.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction (hives, difficult breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling).

Call your doctor at once if you have:

  • severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody (even if it occurs months after your last dose);
  • fast or pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, shortness of breath, and sudden dizziness (like you might pass out);
  • liver problems--upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
  • kidney problems--nausea, loss of appetite, not feeling well, fever, rash, painful urination, pain in your side or lower back;
  • new or worsening symptoms of lupus--joint pain, and a skin rash on your cheeks or arms that worsens in sunlight; or
  • signs of new infection--fever, cough, tiredness, trouble breathing, sores or white patches in your mouth or throat, stomach pain, vomiting, neck pain, sensitivity to light.

Serious side effects may be more likely in older adults.

Taking amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole long-term may cause you to develop stomach growths called fundic gland polyps. Talk with your doctor about this risk.

Common side effects may include:

  • diarrhea;
  • headache; or
  • unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth.
