What Is Pygeum and How Does It Work?

Pygeum is an herbal supplement traditionally used for inflammation, kidney disease, urinary problems, malaria, stomach ache, fever, difficult urination, fever, madness, and prostate gland inflammation.

Pygeum is likely effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) symptoms; it is possibly less effective than saw palmetto.

Pygeum reduces the functional symptoms of BPH. It decreases nocturia by 19%, increases peak urine flow by 23%, and reduces residual urine volume by 24% in men with BPH.

Pygeum is available under the following different brand names: Prunus africana and Pygeum africanum.
