Definition of Precordial catch syndrome

Precordial catch syndrome: a benign condition that causes chest pain in children and young adults. The chest pain is localized to a small area, usually on the front or sides of the chest, and does not radiate to other areas. The pain comes on suddenly, often while a person is at rest, may worsen with breathing, is described as sharp and stabbing, and typically does not last very long. The pain is usually not associated with other symptoms and it goes away on its own.
