Are Tindamax and Talicia the Same Thing?

Talicia (omeprazole magnesium, amoxicillin and rifabutin) and Tindamax (tinidazole) are used to treat Helicobacter pylori infection in adults.

Tindamax may be given in combination with other medications to treat Helicobacter pylori infection. Tindamax is also used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as infection of the intestines or vagina. Tindamax is also used to treat certain sexually transmitted infections.

Talicia and Tindamax belong to different drug classes. Talicia is a combination of a proton pump inhibitor, a penicillin-class antibiotic, and a rifamycin antibacterial and Tindamax is a nitroimidazole


Side effects of Talicia and Tindamax that are similar include diarrhea, headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain/cramps, and heartburn/indigestion.

Side effects of Talicia that are different from Tindamax include abnormally colored urine, rash, mouth and throat pain, and vaginal yeast infection.

Side effects of Tindamax that are different from Talicia include bitter or metallic taste in the mouth, upset stomach, loss of appetite, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, vaginal itching or discharge, weakness, and tiredness.

Both Talicia and Tindamax may interact with antifungal medications, blood thinners, St. John's wort, HIV medications, cyclosporine, and seizure medications.

Talicia may also interact with rifampin, fluconazole, clopidogrel, citalopram, cilostazol, diazepam, probenecid, allopurinol, methotrexate, digoxin, disulfiram, and hormonal contraceptives.

Tindamax may also interact with alcohol, other antibiotics, fluorouracil, isoniazid, lithium, tacrolimus, antidepressants, barbiturates, and heart or blood pressure medications.

What Are Possible Side Effects of Talicia?

Common side effects of Talicia include:

  • diarrhea,
  • headache,
  • nausea,
  • abdominal pain,

What Drugs Interact With Tindamax?

Tindamax may interact with seizure medications, blood thinners, or lithium.

Tindamax may also interact with other antibiotics, cyclosporine, fluorouracil, isoniazid, St. John's wort, tacrolimus, antidepressants, antifungal medications, barbiturates, heart or blood pressure medication, or HIV medications.

How Should Talicia Be Taken?

The dosage of Talicia is four (4) capsules every 8 hours with food for 14 days.

How Should Tindamax Be Taken?

It is advisable to take tinidazole with food to minimize the incidence of epigastric discomfort and other gastrointestinal side-effects. Food does not affect the oral bioavailability of tinidazole. Alcoholic beverages should be avoided when taking tinidazole and for 3 days afterward. For those unable to swallow tablets, tinidazole tablets may be crushed in artificial cherry syrup to be taken with food.
